20 Years Ago Today

20 years ago today, our world changed forever.

Where were you, 20 years ago, on 9/11/01?

I remember the exact moment when I heard about the planes crashing into the Twin Towers. I was walking into my favorite class from my Brown undergraduate years, “City Politics.” My friend walked up to me, and told me the news. “Like out of a movie,” he said in disbelief. What had happened didn’t register with me, and it wasn’t until several minutes later, as we sat down to hear an announcement by our faculty, that the news sank in.

20 years ago today. How much has happened in 20 years.

How much has happened in the last 20 years for you? Who are you today? Who were you then?

Who will you be 20 years from now?

I think about this last question often. Who do I want to be 20 years from now? How do I want to impact this world? How will I continue to serve, for decades to come, until my very last breath?

As the pandemic rages on, and the reality that we may be in this for a long time to come sinks in, this question is ever present in my mind. How will I contribute and serve our world, for as long as I am on this earth?

I challenge you to think about this very question, and what this means to you.

What will be your impact on our world, for as long as you are here? What will your life have meant 20 years from now? 40? 60?

With love and full belief in you, dear friend.

Tammie
