What really is our goal?

I had the most wonderful conversation with my coach today. What really is my goal? Why am I so driven and so motivated with the work and projects I do, and why is it so hard for me to turn them off? I often feel that I’m pushing hard on the gas pedal while trying to press the brake at the same time. I know I need to rest, and yet when I rest, the work and the goals I’m working toward don’t move forward.

I’m still trying to make sense of this paradox within me and I’m curious how this resonates for you.

How do we both align with our purpose and passion, continue to move toward our goals, and yet make the time we need for rest?

Our conversation today led me back to my core values of Joy, Love and Freedom. And this is when this clicked for me. This is the lens through which I must remind myself to view each task, project, and goal. Will this project bring me more Joy, Love or Freedom? Does it align with my other core values of Courageous Integrity, Empowerment or Growth? If not, then I need to apply the 4 D’s --- drop, delegate, delay or do less. Right now.

How funny that the answer is often right there in front of us. Literally, printed out on an 8”x 11” sheet of paper pinned to the wall next to my desk!

I was reminded today that my goal is to live a life filled with more Joy, Love and Freedom. Especially Freedom. And so, when what I’m doing is moving away from that, this is when I need to pause. No matter what my Why, my Purpose and my personal mission are, if what I’m doing is not in alignment with my core values, I’m not living the life that I know I long to live.

What is your real goal in life?

How do you know when you feel burned out?
