Gratitude
On My Mind 11/13/21
Gratitude
Absolutely present on my mind right now and all this past week is gratitude. My heart is bursting with gratitude for our friends, family, colleagues, and community who have rallied behind me and Luisa, my Pink Coat, MD Co-Founder, to help us to get ranked #1 on Amazon in not only one but SEVEN categories, and a top bestseller in ELEVEN categories with our new book, How to Thrive as a Woman Physician…!
I’ve truly been blown away by the support of everyone we know. To me, this is a reflection and testament to the loving, compassionate and giving people we have in our lives – and to the kindness and giving of others. People who don’t even know us are reading our book and sharing personal messages of gratitude with us. These messages mean more to us than we can ever express.
I was able to have a special meal with a very special person last night, our dear family friend who turned 86 this week…! Our meal was a small intimate dinner of 5 triple vaccinated close friends only, friends to whom I can only express the deepest gratitude and love for being there for each other these last two years during the pandemic. Our friend is an incredible woman, in countless ways. What sets her apart is her unflinching optimism and gratitude that is at the core of who she is. Talk about thriving. Her optimism, gratitude and can-do ness is inspiring in every possible way. And this is why she is thriving at 86, walking every morning, participating in multiple book clubs, playing bridge, playing tennis, serving on the board of our local library, and sharing her positivity and optimism with everyone she meets.
We can all learn a lot from her. And her positivity and gratitude are what sets her apart, and makes her truly inspirational.
We can often get in our own way. In fact, we usually are what gets in our own way. Think about this. Where in your life do you have a limiting belief? Do you believe that you too old? Not smart enough? Not good enough? Not rich enough? Not lucky enough? Not powerful enough?
How about we think about what you are most grateful for instead. What are you most grateful for in your own life?
I’m grateful for innumerable things, big and small. I’m grateful for friends, my parents and siblings, my wonderful husband, our sweet furbabies, for the beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest where we live. I’m grateful for this morning’s beautiful sunrise, and how the light is leaving a soft, warm glow on the branches of the majestic Douglas firs in our backyard. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to do the work I’m doing in my pediatric hematology/oncology and provider wellness jobs, and grateful to get to the work I do as a coach and co-founder of Pink Coat, MD and other programs for women physicians.
My list of gratitudes is long. And I bet yours is too.
Why are gratitude practices so powerful? Because they help us to reframe our own thoughts and beliefs in a daily practice that allows us to step into the best and most authentic versions of ourselves. Rather than staying stuck in negative or limiting beliefs about ourselves or our lives. Rather than staying stuck as a victim in our lives.
We are all the authors of our own lives. I didn’t come to understand this until recently. And for this realization, I will always be deeply grateful.
I challenge you to do the same for you. What are you most grateful for, right now?
With love,
Tammie
